Parish Religious Education Information


Grade 1: The children are taught that God made the world and that all of his creations are good. They also learn the basic prayers and that Jesus is their friend and teacher. They are taught that God's love is eternal.

Grade 2: The children are taught about the Church, community, Mass, worship, the Bible, and God's law of love. They also learn of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Grade 3: The children are taught the different types of prayer, and about Mary and the saints. They learn of Jesus' mission and teachings. They learn more about the sacraments and the marks of the Church: one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.

Grade 4: This level covers the good news of Jesus and the meaning of the kingdom of God. They will begin learning the Beatitudes, the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, and work toward a deeper understanding of the Commandments. The will also learn about the Holy Spirit and the gifts he has bestowed on us.

Grade 5: Students learn how Jesus has blessed all of our lives and that he is both human and divine. They develop their knowledge in the sacraments, faith, hope, and love, respect for all people. The saints and Mary are also covered in greater detail.

Grade 6: In this level, students cover the Old Testament including Noah, the covenant, Passover, the Exodus, Israel's Golden Age, and David and Solomon. They will also be introduced to the beginning of the New Testament.

Grade 7: Students in grade seven come to know Jesus through the four Gospels. A deepening of their relationship with Jesus is emphasized. Moral acting, the Creed, and Catholic faith are also covered.

Grade 8: Emphasis is on liturgy and worship, and a review of basic beliefs. This is the first year of preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation.

Grade 9: Young adults strengthen their relationship with God and the parish community. This is the second year of preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. A retreat experience is included this year.

First Penance/First Communion: These classes meet on Thursdays and are designed to teach the children about these two very important sacraments.

Special Needs: These Tuesday classes are designed to provide the same education as listed above, but for those children who may need a more one-on-one approach.
