The Diocese of Fall River has recently entered into an agreement with Saint Anne’s Hospital to sell them the former Saint Anne’s School at an agreed price of $1.7 million dollars. This amount matches the value of an independent appraisal of the School commissioned by the Diocese.
In the process of preparing for the sale, it came to light that some part of the land on which the school is located is owned by the Saint Ann’s Roman Catholic Church corporation (organized in 1894). That corporation has not been active for many decades. To allow for the sale to continue, the older corporation is to be merged with the Diocese Entity (Corporation Sole) and the merged corporation will enter into the sale.
The parish will receive the proceeds. The sale will enable the parish to pay almost all of the substantial debt that it has incurred to the Diocese ($1.8M) over the years in connection with the operation of the School and other obligations. An amount of $100,000 from the sale will be kept by the parish to defray further expenses. If you have any questions, please contact Father Marc Bergeron at 508-674-5651.
